KillGorack 2023-07-20 19:39:12 For a pipe that is open at both ends, the simplest standing wave that can form, also known as the fundamental frequency or first harmonic, has an antinode at each end and one node in the middle. An antinode is a location where the amplitude of the wave is at a maximum (lots of air molecule movement), while a node is a location where the amplitude is at a minimum (no air molecule movement). This is due to the fact that the air at the open ends of the pipe can freely move, creating the antinodes, and the point in the center has minimal movement, creating a node. So, for a standing wave in an air column in a pipe that is open at both ends, there must be at least: two antinodes and one node.
