According to the ideal gas law (PV=nRT), if the number of gas molecules (n), the gas constant (R), and the temperature (T) remain constant, an increase in volume (V) will cause a decrease in pressure (P). Therefore, the pressure inside the cylinder will be lower. In terms of the behavior of the gas molecules, when the plunger is pulled out, it reduces the frequency at which gas molecules hit the walls of the cylinder (including the plunger). This reduction in collision frequency corresponds to a reduction in pressure, as pressure is essentially the force exerted by gas molecules colliding with the walls of their container. In essence, as the plunger moves away, the gas molecules have more space to move around, leading to fewer collisions with the plunger and the walls of the cylinder, resulting in a decrease in pressure.
