In a one-dimensional motion, if an object moves from a lower position to a higher position (like moving from 2m to 5m on a number line), its displacement and average velocity would be positive. Negative average velocity: This occurs when the displacement is in the direction we've defined as negative. In one-dimensional motion, if an object moves from a higher position to a lower position (like moving from 5m to 2m on a number line), its displacement and average velocity would be negative. Zero average velocity: This occurs when the final position is the same as the initial position. Since displacement is zero in this case (final position - initial position = 0), the average velocity will also be zero. This is true even if the object moved during the time interval; as long as it returned to the starting position, the average velocity would be zero.
